An Elegant Pair of Early 19th Century Yew Wood Windsor Armchairs

The very fine quality of this pair suggests they were made by William Wheatland of Rockley (fl. 1822-1828). The centre splat in the back has an extra diamond piercing in the bottom half, tapering sticks to each side are morticed right through the seat and then cut off flush with the underside. A fine incised line follows the outline of the top hoop. All the turnings – arm supports and legs – are very finely executed.
